Non-Selective Beta Blockers Compared

The first-generation beta blockers on the slides, by membrane-stabilizing activity, lipid solubility and intrinsic sympathomimetic activity.

Lecture 6 — Antihypertensive Drugs 6 rows

Lipid solubility predicts central nervous system effects (depression, nightmares, vivid dreams): propranolol and penbutolol are the highly lipid-soluble ones. Pindolol has the most intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, meaning it partly stimulates the receptor it blocks. (The lecturer said not to memorize the plus counts; know the pattern.)
